Though their chase for arrivals this January goes on, the Chronicle reports that Newcastle United are ready to reject the chance to bring Dimitar Berbatov to the club.

The Bulgarian marksman was recently linked with a move to the Toon Army and is understood to have been offered to the Magpies as Rafa Benitez attempts to restore the club to the Premier League.

However, the report claims the Tyneside titans will snub any chance to bring the 35-year-old to St. James’ Park, with the likes of Daryl Murphy, Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic currently available to Rafa Benitez in central striking berths.

Ayoze Perez and Mo Diame can also lead the line in the worst case scenario, should the Spaniard suffer more injuries.

Those behind the scenes at the club’s Benton training base are not thought to want to do anything to take the focus from the task of winning automatic promotion as soon as possible.

As good as he was in his prime, the two-time Premier League winner will soon turn 36 and has struggled to get a game ever since leaving Greek side PAOK. Perhaps he’d be a glamour signing, though not one that makes a huge amount of sense as things stand.
