According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Swansea City winger Modou Barrow as they attempt to finally bring someone in this month.

It’s been a difficult window so far on Tyneside, with Rafa Benitez yet unable to add anyone to his ranks as he gears up to apply the finishing touches to his title tilt in the Championship. His options in wide areas are particularly low, with the likes of Rolando Aarons and Christian Atsu currently unavailable for selection.

Only Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran are currently the only recognised wingers at the Spaniard’s disposal as the campaign enters perhaps its most crucial period.

The story claims progress has been made in regards to a deal for the Gambian midfielder of late and that the Swans may be willing to allow him to join the Magpies for the rest of the campaign. Championship rivals Aston Villa are also thought to be keen, though it’s the Toon Army said to be closing in on a deal.
