It seems as if Rafa Benitez’s set up at Newcastle United is braced for its first real tests as assistant manager Ian Cathro edges closer to leaving St. James’ Park.
The Scot is thought to be closing in on a move to take over as manager of Hearts, a move the Magpies will reportedly not block as Benitez gives his blessing to the 30-year-old.
Though the former Valencia coach was part of the truly dreadful regime run by Steve McClaren on Tyneside, he was kept on by the Spaniard and seems to be well thought of.
Still, recent comments from former Scotland international Kris Boyd suggests there’s an element of doubt in regards to his move to Edinburgh, due to his lack of experience as the main man in the dugout.
However, many of the Toon Army on social media have taken to Twitter to thank Cathro and reassure Hearts fans they are getting a good coach.
In some quarters, they’re even wondering if Steven Gerrard could replace him…

If Cathro is going why don't we offer Gerrard player/coach role? #nufc
