Newcastle United have further moved to rebuild their backroom staff by bringing a new European talent spotter to the club, according to the Chronicle

It’s believed former Southampton striker Paul Baker will join the Magpies as they look to improve their U23 ranks, as well as their first-team under Rafa Benitez.

He will reportedly assist head of recruitment Steve Nickson and be tasked with scouting players between 17 and 21, adding another layer of work to the rebuild currently being constructed on Tyneside.

Recruitment has been a mixed bag for the Toon Army over the past few years, with the aforementioned Nickson making some good moves, while the likes of Graham Carr filled the first-team with a series of flops.

Younger players such as Ayoze Perez, Kevin Mbabu and Rolando Aarons have proved successful, though the senior ranks have seen its fair share of big money signings fail to perform, culminating in relegation last season.
