According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez will only sell forward Aleksandar Mitrovic in January if he’s able to find a top quality replacement.

The Serbian forward has been linked with moves to both Crystal Palace and West Ham United, while Serie A sides are also said to retain an interest.

With Dwight Gayle currently keeping the 22-year-old out of the side, the notion of receiving relatively big money could have been tempted.

Still, the report suggests Benitez is under no pressure to sell in the New Year and the former Anderlecht man has a huge part to play in the second half of the campaign.

He’s been in good form this season too, notching seven goals in 18 games across all competitions, even though he’s largely played second fiddle to the aforementioned Gayle.

Signed for around £13.5m in the summer of 2015, Mitrovic is a cult hero at St. James’ Park and one of the club’s most popular players.
