As Gareth Southgate prepares to lead perhaps the worst England team in recent memory against perhaps the worst Scotland one, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has provided some food for thought.
Working as a pundit on Match of the Day at the moment, the former Toon and the Three Lions skipper has raised the idea of a 3-man defence being utilised at Wembley.
With some of his team now playing the system at club level, I wonder if @GarethSouthgate will consider playing three at the back v Scotland?

Teams such as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have been deploying the formation in recent weeks, bringing a new element of play into the Premier League of late.
While England haven’t used that system in many a year now, they do have the options to do so should the former Middlesbrough boss wish to do so.
The likes of John Stones, Michael Keane and Eric Dier could occupy a three-man defence for a new era of English football, while people like Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill provide more experience.
