Newcaslte United striker Daryl Murphy has been talking to the Chronicle about his time on Tyneside so far.

The Republic of Ireland international was a rather surprise signing for the Magpies relatively late on in the transfer window, representing a departure from the club’s usual policy of only signing younger players who could have sell-on potential.

Largely brought in for his experience at this level, the 33-year-old has endured a frustrating time of things in black and white so far, playing in just one game for the senior side.

As good as Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic have been for Rafa Benitez’s side thus far, it’s injury that’s kept Murphy out of contention for everything other than the EFL Cup win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.

To that end, the former Ipswich Town man has been talking about his time returning to full fitness in an interview with the Chronicle, revealing his frustration.

“It’s been very frustrating because when I signed here I was fully fit and ready”, he said.

“I played one game and then picked up an injury literally the next day.

“It has been very frustrating for me sitting in the stands and watching the lads do well.

“You want to be involved and help the team.

“But I’m on the comeback now so hopefully I can stay injury free.”
