Andros Towsend’s summer departure from Newcastle United threatened to set the wrong tone for what was to come over the next few months.

Following relegation, the Toon’s best players were always likely to depart, though the England international was one of few genuinely popular amongst the club’s support.

However, Rafa Benitez and top brass on Tyneside ensured his £13m sale was offset by the arrivals of Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

The latter, of course, has taken the club famous No.9 jersey and is quickly establishing himself as the Magpies’ master marksman in England’s second tier.

In fact, the 25-year-old has taken to life in the North East well and is already amongst the goals in black and white.

Amazingly, the ex-Peterborough man has scored THREE goals more than Sunderland’s entire squad this season, despite the Black Cats boasting a certain Jermain Defoe.

Things aren’t all that bad right? They could be worse…
