Former Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told Fifa’s official website that he understands why people have criticised him for both his performances and his conduct at Newcastle but says he is happy to have joined Tottenham Hotspur.

Sissoko agitated for a move away from St James’ Park in the summer taking part in a number of interviews for French media where he openly declared his desire to leave Tyneside, angering many Newcastle fans. Reflecting on the events of the summer, Sissoko said:

“I had a complicated season with Newcastle, that ended with relegation. My critics, I understand them. I would say they motivate me and push me to give more. I went on holiday and everybody knew that I wanted to leave Newcastle to go to a more ambitious club that plays in the Champions League and are at the top of the table. God thank you I signed with Tottenham.”

Newcastle managed to get £30million for the 27 year old, a £22million profit on what they paid Toulouse back in 2013 for an attacking player who scored just 12 goals and provided 19 assists in 133 appearances over two and a half seasons. Whether he succeeds is very much up for debate considering his inconsistent form whilst with the Magpies. So far at Tottenham he has made five appearances but has yet to score or create a goal for the Premier League outfit.
