Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote will be given game time between now and the January transfer window, according to the Shield Gazette, after a move to the Middle East failed to materialise.

The transfer window for United Arab Emirates closed yesterday and the defensive midfielder failed to agree a deal with any club to make a move away from Tyneside.

The Ivory Coast international has made just one league appearance this season after coming on in the second half in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa last month.

The 30 year old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and has been subject to interest from Olympiakos and Galatasaray but both clubs pulled out of deals due to concerns over his medical.

It is now expected that Rafa Benitez will give Tiote matches in order to put himself in the shop window so he can then get a move away from the club in January.
