Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul looks finally set to return to competitive action after Ajax coach Peter Bosz said the Dutchman would be included to play in a friendly between an Ajax XI and the club’s top tier youth academy side Ajax A1.

The 28 year old joined the Eredivisie side back in August but it has been almost a year since he has played first team football after sustaining a serious knee injury playing for the Netherlands last October. Bosz told reporters at a press conference yesterday that Krul is edging closer towards competitive football: He is quoted by Voetbal International as saying:

“This will come in his own way, soon he will be putting in true goalkeeping performances for Ajax. On the next steps I can not say anything. That’s what I’m talking about with the medical staff.”

Whether Krul will ever return to play for Newcastle is an open question. Magpies boss Rafa Benitez currently has four senior goalkeepers at the club with current number one Karl Darlow having to fight to keep his place from the likes of Matz Sels, fit again Rob Elliot and England Under 21 international keeper Freddie Woodman.
