Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been talking about his wild celebrations after Dwight Gayle scored a last gasp winner against Norwich City last week.

The Serbian was seen slamming Gayle to the ground after his strike partner had scored the winning goal, but when asked about the incident by reporters in the build up to Serbia’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova, the 22 year old said he just got a bit carried away. He is quoted by the Evening Chronicle as saying:

“I put it down to my emotions and adrenaline because we got goals in the 94th and 96th minute. I just went to grab someone and ended up doing that. I’m just like that. I was overjoyed, and Gayle was not angry.”

Mitrovic was not the only one getting carried away after the 4-3 win with fans at St James’ Park delighted that the Magpies had turned defeat into victory in the space of minutes against their promotion rivals.

After following that victory up with a win at Rotherham United at the weekend, Rafa Benitez’s side will be hoping that the momentum from that match will carry on after the international break.
