While the overhaul conducted by Rafa Benitez at St. James’ Park is far more than matters on the pitch, one particular berth has shown the progress made under his stewardship.
For the first time in a long time, the Toon Army have a wealth of options available at left-back.
Gone are the days when Rolando Aarons would have to play in a defensive role, only to be ripped apart.
Now, the Magpies boast Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara, Jesus Gamez, Ciaran Clark AND Achraf Lazaar in that role.
While Dummett can probably call himself first-choice at the moment, the wealth of options available to the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach is indicative of the club’s growth in recent months.
Though the more attacking options take the plaudits, as a Newcastle fan, it is excellent to see strength and depth in a position that has proved a problem for so long.
