While Ayoze Perez, Daryl Murphy, Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic battle it out for the central striking berths at St. James’ Park, there is another.

For a club that represents such a footballing hotbed, it has been so long since we, as long suffering Newcastle United fans, have had an academy graduate to turn to and celebrate.

In times gone by, the emergence of a striker as talented as Adam Armstrong would have seen intense pressure piled on his young shoulders, with the Toon Army so desperate for the next Alan Shearer.

Still, the fact the club boast four big strikers and squad packed to the rafters with top players, the 19-year-old has been afforded leave to get game time under his belt.

And when he does, the boy can do this.

With that in mind, this incarnation of Newcastle United Football Club is perhaps the best it has ever been to develop top players.

In Rafa Benitez they boast a truly top manager and a wealth of attacking options that allow the England U19 international the time and space to develop.

Excitement around him is palpable, though for the first time in a while, it is grounded.

Will Armstrong break into the Newcastle United first-team next season? Let us know below..
