Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is hoping to make a big impact on the Championship this season by scoring goals for the Magpies.

The Serbian did not start against Aston Villa at the weekend with Rafa Benitez opting to play Dwight Gayle as the lone striker but the forward told Newcastle’s matchday magazine (via the Mag) he believes there is more to come from him:

“I always want more goals and any striker wants to be better. I want to be better this season and score as many as I can but I’m a team player. First, it’s important that the team wins games. The goals will come.”

The 22 year old scored in his only start of the season against QPR in a 6-0 win two weeks ago, and has only made appearances from the bench against Wolves and Aston Villa since then. With a crucial top of the table clash against Norwich City tonight, he will be hoping to be given an opportunity by Benitez to start and begin firing in the goals for the Magpies. He will however have to fight off the likes of Daryl Murphy, Ayoze Perez and Gayle however for a place in the starting lineup if indeed Rafa opts once again for one up front.
