Newcastle full back DeAndre Yedlin he said he felt “relief” after Dwight Gayle scored a dramatic final minute winner against Norwich City last night.

The Magpies dominated the first half an hour of the match and should have put the match out of Norwich’s sight with the number of chances they created. As it was they went into half time with the score at 1-1 after conceding a penalty which was converted by Graham Dorrans. A curling effort by Cameron Jerome and a deflected shot from Jacob Murphy meant the Magpies had to recover from 3-1 down.

Yedlin told the club’s official website that once they get back to level terms after he created the equaliser for Yoan Gouffran, he felt the momentum was with Newcastle.:

“The fans started to get louder and louder and we had the momentum then, so we pushed forward and Dwight scored a great goal.It was kind of a relief – we let off the gas a little bit at the start of the second half up until we scored the second goal. There was a little bit of relief that that didn’t punish us, but we have to be a bit sharper in the future, just so that doesn’t happen again.”

Gayle’s hat trick goal means Newcastle are now just one point behind Norwich City in third place, and just three points behind league leaders Huddersfield Town.
