Newcastle forward Yoan Gouffran could not hide his delight after the Magpies sealed a 4-3 win over promotion rivals Norwich City at St James’ Park last night.

The Frenchman has had a remarkable turnaround in fortunes himself after seemingly being on his way out of the club in the summer, but he scored a crucial goal in stoppage time to help complete a dramatic comeback which was followed by Dwight Gayle’s stunning last minute winner. Reflecting on the match, the 30 year old told the club’s official website that he had never experienced such a win in his long career as a player:

“What a game! I said to the guys in the dressing room, it’s the first time in my career I’ve been involved in this kind of game. Last year, we lost against them, but tonight we won, so it’s a really good win for us, for the players, for the fans.”

Gouffran’s goalscoring touch has certainly returned this season with the vital goal against Norwich City following closely goals against Wolves in the EFL Cup and another against Derby County in a 2-0 win. The forward says that he wants to keep the momentum going by following the Norwich win with another against Rotherham on Saturday:

“This win is going to help us to play (against Rotherham United on) Saturday. It’s a big game, a tough game, but we have to win if we want to be promoted.”
