Newcastle midfielder Mohamed Diame has been frustrated by the form he has shown since he has arrived at St James’ Park. He says that it has taken him a while to reach peak fitness for the Magpies but he knows that hard work on the training pitch will hopefully improve his performances on the field.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle before the match against Aston Villa tomorrow, the Senegalese international says he is confident that he will be back in the goals soon:

“I’m getting there slowly, things always come eventually if you work hard. I need to keep working hard and all the other stuff will come. I am confident about this. The team is in a good way and will have a good game with Aston Villa.”

The 29 year old scored ten goals for Hull City in the Championship last season but has yet to score for Newcastle since his arrival from the Tigers for £4.5million in the summer. He did however come close against Wolves on Tuesday night when he attempted a clever chip as the Magpies won 2-0 to reach the fourth round of EFL Cup. Newcastle will face Preston North End in the last 16 and they will be confident of reaching at least the quarter final.
