PSV Eindhoven Marcel Brands has told FOX Sports Netherlands that the Eredivisie champions are close to agreeing a loan deal for Newcastle attacking midfielder Siem De Jong.

De Jong commented on Friday that although former club Ajax was his first choice, he is looking forward to playing for PSV. The Evening Chronicle and Dutch media have both confirmed today that De Jong has passed a medical in preparation for the move being completed. Brands said there are however a couple of obstacles to overcome:

“There are two issues with Newcastle. It is about insurance and financial commitments. But I do not expect it to be a stumbling block.”

It is believed that the season long loan will cost PSV €2.3million in terms of the combined loan fee and wages. De Jong will be joining his broker Luuk who currently plays as a striker at the club. The PSV forward also had an ill fated loan spell at St James’ Park two years ago before he moved back to PSV from former club Borussia Monchengladbach.
