Newcastle forward Yoan Gouffran could be set to leave St James’ Park before the end of the transfer window, according to the Shields Gazzette.

Although the Frenchman has appeared for Rafa Benitez in preseason matches unlike a number of other players who are expected to leave the club by the end of August, Gouffran was not selected by the Spanish boss in the 18 man squad that was took part in Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham last Friday.

The 30 year old has just one year left on his contract, and the Magpies may want to push through a sale in order to make sure the forward doesn’t leave for nothing next summer. The Shields Gazette however are reporting that Gouffran is not interested in moving clubs and may look to see out his contact with the Championship club. He is unlikely to figure for Newcastle this season though with Rafa Benitez looking to strengthen his forward line with another striker and winger before the window shuts at the end of the month.
