Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote looks set to leave the Magpies for Middle East side Al Jazira club, according to the Evening Chronicle. The 30 year old has one year left on his contract and manager Rafa Benitez is willing to allow the player to leave.

The Ivory Coast international has had difficulties with form and fitness in the past few years and it was clear that his time on Tyneside was up after not being included in the squad for Newcastle’s 2-0 friendly win against Southend last night.

The Chronicle believes that although no formal offer from Al Jazira has so far been put on the table, it is possible that an agreement could be reached for Tiote in the “next few days.”

With Jack Colback, Vurnon Anita and the arrival of Isaac Hayden from Arsenal, the Ivorian’s playing time would have been severely limited in central midfield and it looks like his time on Tyneside is up after a six year stay.
