Marseille have made a fresh bid to re-sign Newcastle winger Florian Thauvin on loan, according to the Evening Chronicle. The 23 year old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stade Velodrome and the Ligue One side would like the player for a second spell.

The winger was only signed from Marseille last summer for £15million but he failed to settle on Tyneside and returned to France in January. The Magpies are however adamant that the player won’t be sold for less than £12million and after the sale of Georginio Wijnaldum to Liverpool for £25million, they are in no rush to sell another midfielder.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is believed to be happy Thauvin’s attitude and performances in preseason and the Frenchman will only be allowed to leave under the right terms. Marseille have struggled financially in recent seasons and would like the player back on a no strings attached season long loan. The Magpies however only want to sell the winger or at least have a loan agreement in place with an obligation to buy at the end of it. It looks that at least for now, Thauvin will remain part of Newcastle’s first team squad.
