Newcastle are willing to pay between £6million and £10million for Brighton & Hove Albion winger Anthony Knockaert, according to Brighton’s Evening Argus newspaper.

Chief Sports reporter for the Argus Andy Naylor believes that the Seagulls have already rejected one “substantial bid” for the winger but the Championship club are working hard to keep together a squad which missed out on promotion to the Premier League only on goal difference last season.

Knockaert only joined from Standard Liege in January for £2.6million and he made an important impact as he led Brighton’s fight for promotion, making 19 appearances and scoring five goals. He is just six months into a three and a half year contract, and the Magpies will have to fight to land the 24 year old this summer.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is believed to want to sign four more players before the end of the transfer window with a winger, left back, central midfielder and striker all positions looking to be filled.
