Newcastle United have reportedly taken young Serbian goalkeeper Filip Dmitrovic on a trial with potential for the stopper to move to Tyneside permanently, according to Soccer News.

The 20-year-old is a keeper that plays for Austrian second tier side SK Austria Klagenfurt, but has caught the eye of European scouts while playing for Serbia under-21’s.

Dmitrovic was recently on trial at PSV Eindhoven and was being tipped to move to the Eredivisie side ahead of next season.

However, with the custodian failing to agree terms with the Dutch club, Newcastle are said to have taken advantage and will give him a trial on Tyneside to prove his worth.

Goalkeeper is an interesting position for Rafa Benitez’s men, who have been without first choice Tim Krul all season and have had Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot fight for a starting berth.

The Geordies are in a relegation dogfight currently but hopes have been raised of a Premier League stay after positive recent showings.
