Gabriel ObertanWith less than one year to go until the Rio Olympics, our attention turns to which of Newcastle United’s current squad would be able to try their hand at another sport.

The obvious cross-over is sprinting, with Newcastle starlet Rolando Aarons employing his very own Olympic training regime in the summer in order to get fit in time for the start of the new season.

Aarons returned to his home town of Bristol a couple of months in order to get the advice and help of Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell and to get some extra training sessions in.

However, if one Newcastle player was to be chosen for an Olympic sprinting team it wouldn’t be Rolando, there could only be one man…

Gabriel Obertan! Did you see him sprinting to set up the second goal at St James’ Park on Sunday? While we’re at it, Georginio Wijnaldum would fare pretty well as a long distance runner too!
