Aymen AbdennourEvery transfer window there are a couple of transfer rumours that you know just won’t happen. Think Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid to Manchester United, Karim Benzema to Arsenal. Well, Newcastle United had their very own rumour of this nature, but unfortunately Premier League leaders Manchester City put paid to that.

At various points throughout the summer, Newcastle were reported to have looked at Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, as Steve McClaren looked to beef up his back line.

However Manchester City last week set in motion a chain of events that would eventually see Abdennour join Valencia this weekend, to take away the slightest of hope from even the most optimistic Newcastle fan.

Man City have started the 2015/16 Premier League season like a train, winning four out of four and strengthening their squad even further in the process.

City forked out around £30 million to sign Aregntina centre back Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia, giving the La Liga club a position to fill and some money to spend.

They spent that on reported Newcastle target Aymen Abdennour, an £18m purchase, and the Tunisian defender was seemingly happy with his move.

Abdennour said: “Valencia is a huge club and I’m happy to be here, I had no doubts. I’m delighted to have joined the best league in the world.”

Keep telling yourself that Aymen!
