Micah RichardsNewcastle United’s strict transfer policy and refusal to spend lots of money has seen them miss out on many players in recent transfer windows and the summer looks set to be no different as Arsenal are favourites to beat them to the signing of Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

This is a transfer rumour that has been doing the rounds for a little while, as Richards gets no closer to the Man City starting XI.

Newcastle’s need for a right back might just become a bit more urgent in the coming months as well, as current incumbent Mathieu Debuchy is being strongly linked with a return to France to join up with his good friend and former teammate Yohan Cabaye at PSG.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has even said that Newcastle need more British players, so Richards would appear to tick all the boxes, all apart from the financial one it seems.

£72,000 a week does seem to be a lot of Dollar for a player who hasn’t played first team football consistently for a year / 18 months and has some questions about him defensively.

So Arsenal may well be left to pick up the player whose contract ends in the summer of 2015 and would be available for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million.

£72k a week? That’s a lot of tracky bottoms for Mike Ashley to sell!
