Last weekend the Daily Mail was reporting that Newcastle United and Everton were showing an interest in Manchester United and England striker Danny Welbeck and the 23-year-old could do worse than return to the north-east.
Welbeck has had something of a breakout season for Man United.
Welbs has netted nine times in the Premier League and it seems strange that David Moyes would want to let someone with so much potential leave, but the rumours are that he will be part of a massive summer clearout at Old Trafford.
Danny has been in the north-east before of course, as he spent the 2010/11 season at Sunderland and did rather well, netting six goals and catching the eye before picking up an injury.
If Welbeck’s not wanted at Man United, then he certainly would be at Newcastle, despite his Black Cats’ past, and could be a new hero at St James’ Park.
He is still a little raw, but he’s shown he has a level of composure in front of goal, he’s provides a bit of height up top and has plenty of pace.
I’d have thought Welbeck would be pretty pricey, which might put Newcastle off, but he’s well under 26 and would have a large sell-on value, which put massive ticks in Mike Ashley’s boxes.
This signing would be very exciting for Newcastle and once Danny Welbeck has done his bit in Brazil, then he could do worse than put on the famous black and white stripes!
