Newcastle goalkeeper Tim KrulNewcastle United have shown a strong interest in Dutch striker Luuk de Jong in this transfer window, but now it appears that his current club Borussia Monchengladbach are eyeing Newcastle’s very own Tim Krul in a shocking swap deal.

According to the Metro, Gladbach have taken a fancy in the Newcastle goalkeeper and would like to make Krul their number one and included as part of a deal for de Jong.

This could well scupper any Newcastle advances for the Dutchman as they would surely be unwilling to let such an important player leave the club?

Krul has shown much better form this season, with the standout performance being his heroic clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the Premier League earlier in this campaign.

The 25-year-old has still not hit his prime, yet continues to be a huge presence for Newcastle in between the sticks and it would be some task to replace him.

It’s no surprise that Gladbach are keen, seeing that their current number one Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to join Barcelona at the end of this season.

Luuk de Jong for Tim Krul? No way! It’s a no brainer, but then you wonder whether some of the hierarchy at Newcastle have anything up top at all…
