yohan cabaye vs man unitedNews is breaking this evening that Newcastle United have accepted a bid from PSG for Yohan Cabaye, with the French midfielder set to move for a fee of £19 million.

The whole Yohan Cabaye transfer saga started last summer when Arsenal offered the derisory amount of £10m for the services of the Frenchman.

Newcastle quickly rejected that bid and Cabaye duly went on strike, which alienated him with the supporters to some extent.

However, he returned to form and the fans were happy with his performances for the team, with the 28-year-old excelling in the number 10 role.

Then in this window PSG offered £14m, which was again rejected, before Cabaye once again asked to leave and as a result an agreement was finally made in the region of £20m.

It’s disappointing to see Cabaye leave but I do wish him all the best and thank him for his service during his two-and-a-half years at the club.

Whether a move to PSG, where he might not get as much playing time, is a good one remains to be seen, but let’s hope his best mate Mathieu Debuchy is happy to stay.

At the end of the day, Newcastle have made £15m on a player they spent £4.3m on in 2011, which isn’t bad business at all and we can’t hope to keep hold of players of Cabaye’s calibre if we’re not in the Champions League…

But how do we break into the top 4 without being able to keep high calibre players?

Our once proud club is just a vehicle for Ashley to use however he sees fit regardless of what the fans think.

It was the right price Arsenal offered.
Only money-no-object clubs like PSG ManC or Chelsea are stupid enough to pay £19m for Cabaye. These clubs make giant financial losses every season but with billionaires funding them they don’t care. Ramsey has been 3 times the player cabaye has been this season, so by this ridiculous price it would make Ramsey worth £60m. Thats how stupid it is!

And for ‘staffstoon’ – if you really think Newcastle could EVER get into the Top4 with a failed, classless, inept manager like Pardew, you’re more deluded than Keegan was on his ‘unfinished business’ return !

Before you deride Arsenal for their offer you need to realise that no well run club or indeed business dealer worth his salt will offer big money if by chance they can get away with a smaller figure. it was not up to arsenal to pour money into newcastle but rather for the latter to try and squeeze it out. in the end arsenal did not believe the player was worth more, contrary to newcastle’s view, hence no deal was made and that’s it. i am sure there are players whose prices newcastle have bulked at in the past and resisted purchasing.
