Loic Remy red cardLoic Remy’s red card in the 0-0 Premier League draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road has ruled him out of Newcastle United’s grudge match with Sunderland at St James’ Park on Sunday, but was it a red card and what was Remy doing in the first place?

To say it was a contentious decision for referee Chris Foy to send off both Loic Remy and Norwich midfielder Bradley Johnson would be something of an understatement.

The two both acted ridiculously in coming face-to-face and raising their arms to push each other, but as their heads came together, Johnson pathetically stumbled away to insinuate that Remy head-butted him, which definitely wasn’t the case.

A yellow card for both would have sufficed, but Foy brandished two reds, with Remy somewhat shocked and he had to drag himself off the field.

While Remy’s behaviour was very poor, it certainly wasn’t a red and it will be interesting to see whether Newcastle contest the decision.

If not, or if they do and are unsuccessful, Remy will miss Newcastle’s next three Premier League games, including the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday against Sunderland.

Newcastle without Yohan Cabaye and now Loic Remy are a much weaker outfit.

Very, very silly from the Frenchman.
