Ciprian MaricaThe Sunday People is today reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign free agent Ciprian Marica in the coming days, but the question has to be asked why aren’t Newcastle United making a move for the Romanian striker?

Yesterday it was all too evident that not bringing in a striker in the summer was a big mistake, as Papiss Cisse showed how off the boil he has gone.

Cisse was generally poor, with his lay-offs often too heavy and he was fortunate that his miscued shot fell into the path of Loic Remy for his assist early on.

You’d have thought that Joe Kinnear would be on the lookout for a bargain, but while Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham are all taking a look at Marica, Newcastle’s DoF seemingly has other things to do.

Ciprian Marica is currently a free agent having left Bundesliga club Schalke in the summer and the 27-year-old is being offered around by his representatives.

Marica has said: “I am in negotiations with three teams. I hope I will be able to tell you the name of my next team by the end of next week,” and it looks like that team will be Spurs.

When you look at Marica’s record you might wonder what all the fuss is about, as he only scored five league goals in two years at Schalke and his record wasn’t much better at Stuttgart or Shakhtar before that.

However, Ciprian Marica has scored 22 times in 64 appearances for the Romanian national team and that kind of experience up top would have been useful for Newcastle right now.

With our lack of strikers at the moment and Cisse bang out of form, I have no idea why we were not one of the 3 clubs in for this lad!.
