Tottenham star wants Newcastle move

Jermain DefoeAccording to the Sunday People, Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe will turn down West Brom’s advances and hold out hope for a last-minute bid from Newcastle United.

30-year-old England striker Jermain Defoe has been on the fringes at Tottenham for a while and things look no different this season.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has invested heavily in attacking midfield players and looks set to play just one up front, with summer signing Roberto Soldado his preferred option.

That will leave Defoe with just Europa League starts to look forward to, as was the case on Thursday, when he netted twice and displayed his finishing qualities.

Defoe is a player I’ve wanted to see brought to Newcastle for a while and the striker briefly played under Newcastle manager Alan Pardew when at West Ham.

I think Jermain realises that he would be idolised in the north-east, as all goal scorers are, and sees a move to Tyneside as an attractive one as his career comes towards the end.

The clear sticking points are a £6 million fee and his £65,000-a-week wages, with the former unlikely to be matched considering that Defoe is the wrong side of 30.

That will leave West Brom and Stoke City in the race for the Tottenham star, but let’s hope that the dream move for Jermain Defoe and many Newcastle fans can be completed.

    Can’t you take Adebayor instead?

  • tom mc says:

    no chance.

Lets get a couple of strikers in before allowing Defoe or Adebayor to go….Let’s not get stuck as last year with no prolific scorers… we need at least 3 or 4 to be able to compete for any honors!!!!

You must know this ain’t gonna happen, JD is Spurs through and through and said he is happy here. AVB said he is not for sale, so unless somebody does a Madridsta and comes up with stupid money I would take the Sunday People with a pinch of salt.

    This is RUBBISH!

  • Paulogeordio says:

I would be so happy if this came about, I have no doubt that JD would be a huge success at Newcastle and could certainly play off/with Cisse. Unfortunately, it isn’t likely to happen with the clowns we have running the club at the moment!

Just another one of so many rumours why do we get associated with every Tom dick and Harry were as the likes of spurs for example soon as they are in for somebody the deal is done within 24 hours. That’s the difference with us and the top ten Ashley is happy as long as his till is clicking

It won’t happen no sell on value for Newcastle and i would think Defoes wages would be too high and would a30 year old move north

Am tired of waiting,2 hell With rumours all I want 2 here is a striker is having a medical.

  • Gary says:

Defoe is a quality finisher, plays off defenders shoulder and still has plenty of pace, even at 30 yrs old… But 2 C him in the black n white of Newcastle Utd is a complete fairy-tail & is never going 2 happen. Us Toon fans r just going 2 have 2 face the fact that our transfer business is done 4 the summer!!

  • johns says:

Why an Earth would he play for a club from inferior Planet?

Any Spurs fans slagging off Newcastle have short memories. Two seasons ago they pushed us and the arse all the way for the top 4 and in all honesty have a far superior PL history than we do. Stand up if you’ve gone close to winning the premier league….I imagine there’s not a lot of us gods standing. Yes we’ve got it together over the last 4 or 5 seasons but I remember the days of sheared, Ginola, Asprilia etc. Don’t mug us serious Tottenham fans off with your bollox!! That being said, JD will finish his career with us (hopefully) and we’d be hard pushed to find someone that good to play from the bench.

What are you on.Who in their mind would join a club like the ‘Mags’ who lurch from one crisis to another. They can offer nothing to Defoe that Spurs cant.
