PecksPremier League trio Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Gil Vicente defender Pecks by the Metro.

Pecks, full name Pericles Santos Pereira, currently plies his trade in Portugal for Primeira Liga side Gil Vecente, who he joined in 2011 during his youth career.

Now 20 years of age, Pecks already has a senior national cap for Cape Verde and plays as a right-footed central defender.

The 6ft tall centre back is pretty inexperienced, so a fee of £5million would be extortionate, but his club is reluctant to let him go.

Pecks’ buy-out clause is set at that price and the Gil Vicente president Antonio Fiusa has said: “The player has a contract until 2017 and we do not have to sell at an inferior price.”

A tough-tackler, it is thought that he style would suit the Premier League but don’t expect anyone to spend that sort of money on him, even though both Man City and Spurs spent big in the summer.

According to talkSPORT, City and Gil Vicente have a deal that allows manager Manuel Pellegrini to take a look at the Portugal club’s young stars, so the Manchester club would be favourites to sign him.

Pardew is not up against City and Spurs,
Kinnear is, Pardew has nothing to do
with transfers. 6ft is too short for Newcastles
defence, a 6ft 3ins at least is needed.
    Someone like Douglas–read this Joe.
