Pardew and CabayeNewcastle United may be pretty rubbish at buying players, but it appears they’ve got some pretty nifty tactics to keep players, as it emerged yesterday that Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley taped transfer negotiations with Arsenal to play to Yohan Cabaye and convince the Frenchman to stay at the club.

BBC Sport journalist James Pearce yesterday revealed that Mike Ashley taped phone conversations with the Arsenal hierarchy to show how much Newcastle valued Cabaye and what kind of role he would have if he moved to north London.

@PearceSport tweeted: “I’m told Mike Ashley let Cabaye listen to phone negotiations last week + he heard Arsenal say: “25 million a lot for a reserve” #moodchanger”.

It’s thought that Cabaye wasn’t that interested in moving to Arsenal to sit on the bench, so it turne d out this risky tactic from Ashley actually worked out pretty well.

If only Ashley would have recorded some of the conversations he’s had with Director of Football Joe Kinnear so we can see what that useless bloke has actually been saying.

It’s no surprise that Ashley has thought outside the box, as he’s a pretty clever businessman, even if he doesn’t always show it while in charge of Newcastle United.

As a result Yohan Cabaye is still a Newcastle player, so let’s hope he can clear his mind and do his best for the Magpies for the rest of the season (or at least until January).

All that proves is Ashley is a scumbag who doesn’t realise its actually ILLEGAL to tape someones voice in a conversation without letting them know. Arsenal have too much class to sue this fat barrow-boy. They will just sit back and enjoy watching them go down and see him sell all his players for a fraction of their cost. What a Moron

      Except its not actually illegal

Read a book you retard. Its not illegal it just wouldnt stand as evidence in a court of law. And that moron you just mentioned managed to keep our best player!!! Something u couldnt do last year when ure star man went to your rivals(well old rivals as your not a top 3 club anymore!!! Shame !!!!maybe arsene can sign some more young boys to look at in the shower

If you believe this, you’re a mug.

As soon as any club did this (taping negotiations, showing players later), no one else would want to negotiate with them.

Simple reason why Cabaye didn’t go to Arsenal: Newcastle wanted more than Arsenal were willing to pay.

Give Newcastle a bit more credit. I think they’re classier than that.

If you believe that arsenal would say that while negotiating for a player you are stupid. Newcastle have feed the media a line and gulible fools like you swallow it.

    Red4Ever is spot on.

Well done Mike Ashley for a complete disregard for the law. I’m sure that would have been a confidential phone call. Is it a civil suit or a criminal action? Arsenal wont bother, but would the CPS?

low down dirty shame, if Ashley really did so. However Cabaye should know better

  • Albert says:

Even if this is true, Arsenal people would say that to negotiate a lower price. Cabaye would be desperate to move to e better club and escape this Cashley- Kinnear tragic-comedy! Reasons why Cabaye to Arsenal did not go through, are Ozil and Ashley’s asking price. It seems Aspers casino has been cashing up a lot lately from NUFC’s hierarchy…

Ashley is a prick, a real business man would invest in Newcastle, make them one of the worlds best known teams and cream the profits from his sales of merchandise. The only way to hurt him is NOT to buy his goods from the shop or sports direct.Buy from Asia on the net quality is good and you will be taken money away from Ashley. He will put out the hype that you are hurting Newcastle, bollocks you will only be hurting Ashley.Make him suffer the way he is making us suffer, he hits us in the heart we hit him in the pocket. He has to much money invested in the toon to let it die.

  • Scott says:

It’s not illegal, many offices have phone recording to cover there backsides ( like this! ).

    • Rob says:

Many offices do have tape recording, and they tell you your conversations will be recorded that’s the law.

  • Hamish says:

It is illegal to tape a conversation without letting the other party know. Where calls are taped legally the callers hear a beep in the background.

It seems pretty clear no-one wants to deal with them anyway

  • Steve says:

have a laugh . We were never going to sign any players in the transfer market. Not for cash anyway .
That’s why Ashley got thick ear in. just so he can bull#%^* everyone into thinking he’s going to sign the right players for the castle . Infact wot Ashley is really saying .is . lets upset the players so that they can put in a transfer request. Then the fans can’t blame us for getting rid of someone that doesn’t want to play for newcastle . Just like when thick ear Charles nzogbia’s name wrong on purpose . And wot happened there . He refused to play again ..money grabbing fat git Ashley … do us all a favour and sell our beloved club to someone that does want it for footballing reasons and not all about money ., you owe us this .
