Liverpool’s £8m valuation of Newcastle star now looks like a joke

4: vs FulhamOver the summer there were reports of interest in Newcastle United star Hatem Ben Arfa, but given the performances of the Frenchman in the first month of the season, it now looks like Liverpool FC valuation of Ben Arfa was some way off the mark.

Liverpool have been long-term suitors of Hatem Ben Arfa and it is thought that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is a keen admirer of the Frenchman and was looking to make a bid for the 26-year-old in the January transfer window.

According to The Metro they were lining up a bid of £6million and were willing to go to £8m to get their man, but given the last two Premier League outings for Newcastle, there’s no way Ben Arfa will be available for anything near that price.

Hatem Ben Arfa is still contracted to Newcastle until the end of the 2014/15 Premier League season, and the Magpies hierarchy have been looking to extend that for a further two years by offering him a new deal.

The Frenchman currently earns £40,000-a-week, but he could even double his salary and earn weekly wages of £80,000 given his importance to Newcastle.

One thing’s for sure; Mike Ashley definitely won’t be selling him for less than £10m, and £15m would even look like a bargain for Ben Arfa right now.

What valuation would you place of Newcastle United’s main man Hatem Ben Arfa?

But then he’ll pick up an injury when you need him most. That’s way his price is lower than it should be.

As a LFC fan i totally agree with you, although even if we had come in for him no way would we have got him for £8m.

I can’t see him going anywhere from NUFC until the end of the season now or unless Pardew is sacked or he resign, so I expect NUFC to give him a new contract with a release clause in there somewhere.

Get a grip soft lad,he’s injured 3/4 of the season.Jesus we don’t even want him FACT.

Typical silly Scouser. Anyone who doesn’t want Ben-Arfa in their team knows zip about him or football for that matter.

  • Juan says:

Too injury prone. Great player when he stays fit but that’s not too often. Those injuries mean hes not even worth a reported transfer outlay of 8 million plus 80 grand a week. As for saying hes worth 20 million, crazy talk. Man City wouldnt be mad enough to pay those prices. He will stay at Newcastle until season end, possibly go back to one of the French teams if he doesnt stay at Newcastle but I dont think your going to have to worry about anybody trying to take him off your hands.

if they paid 35 million for andy carroll who knows a new world record fee.

You talk about him being injury prone but look at Van Persie and Demba Ba. Both were just as injury prone but they shook them off. If HBA has an injury prone season and a half then bids will come (Jan 2015) but I hope we never sell him. Haven’t been this excited about a player since Ginola! Or maybe Robert….

  • Peter says:

Ben arfa is one of my favourite players at Newcastle, he’s number is 10
Because that’s the score he got outta 10 when the awesomeness rating came in on him
    Hahaha
Ah no but seriously, if he plays even 10 more games this season like the last 2, then his price is gonna be sky high
But I wouldn’t sell him, he creates something from nothing. So priceless

  • Lfc says:

Your basing this after one half decent game ? Haha you lot are as delusional as Nicklas Bentdner, Ben arfa is a great player on his day, but he’s never consistent enough & he struggles to keep fitness for a full season!! Worst article I’ve seen in a long time get real ye divvy

  • Ian says:

He’s a brilliant player on his day, but unfortunately those days are rare, due to injury and inconsistent form. I think he’s a great player, but way too injury prone to command anything over £10million.

Reminds me of an old Patrick Viera joke, adapted for Hatem…..

Hatem Ben Arfa walks into his favourite pub.
The barman asks “Pint of your favourite tipple, Hatem?”
“Nah, mate, just the usual half them I’m off…..”

Terrible article, let’s see if he’s still playing halfway through the season.
