The one signing I thought Newcastle United would make this summer would be that of Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, but while the Magpies failed to secure the signing of the Frenchman, Gomis has admitted that he could well move to Newcastle ‘one day’.
Bafetimbi Gomis was a player that Newcastle were after all summer, as the powerful striker seemed the ideal man to lead the line for the Magpies.
The 28-year-old has just one year left on his contract at Lyon and Joe Kinnear and co. were looking to sign the Frenchman for a cut down price.
However, they didn’t bargain having to deal with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who from the outside looks like an absolute nightmare to try a do and do business with.
As Aulas confirmed no transfer would take place on deadline day, Newcastle fan @ryancator_91 was still posting the image above of Gomis’ name on the back of a black and white shirt.
@richardstorey4 also posted it to @BafGomis on Twitter and Gomis responded by saying: “sorry is not 4 this year! maybe one day …. i never forgot you.”
Expect this saga to start up again in January when Bafetimbi Gomis will just have six months left on his contract…
