Demba BaWith 24 hours until the transfer window slams shut, Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign Chelsea striker Demba Ba on a season-long loan after it was revealed that the Gunners made an enquiry for the former Newcastle United striker.

Newcastle had been strongly linked with a move to bring Demba Ba back to St James’ Park, but it appears that Arsenal are going on a late spending spree, something that the Toon Army can apparently only dream of.

The Gunners are as short as 4/1 with Sky Bet to sign Ba before the end of the transfer window, with Newcastle out to 9/1 and Roma the outsiders at 16/1, while he could still stay at Stamford Bridge.

I would be a bit surprised if Chelsea allowed Ba to go to Arsenal given that the Gunners will be battling the Blues at the top end of the Premier League table, but maybe Jose Mourinho doesn’t see the north London club as title contenders?

Either way, it looks as though Newcastle could be missing out on another transfer target due to Joe Kinnear not being decisive enough in the transfer market, but at least Mesut Ozil’s proposed £40 million move from Real Madrid to Arsenal could see Arsene Wenger end his pursuit of Yohan Cabaye.

That’s one ruled out, only another six to cross off the list…
