Cheik Tiote NewcastleCheick Tiote is a huge player for Newcastle United this season and the Ivorian will need to display all of his battling qualities if the Magpies are to recapture their form of the 2011/12 Premier League campaign that saw them finish 5th.

Tiote himself will admit that he was far from his best last season, which is reflected in the fact that there are few rumours concerning him leaving Tyneside this summer, when last year Chelsea were being linked with a £20 million bid.

Now the 27-year-old needs to get his head down and concentrate on being terrier-like in the middle of the park, giving opposition midfielders no time on the ball and being a general menace around the field.

When on form, Mr T would be part of a fearsome midfield trio alongside Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko, and many experts would argue that he just needs to uncomplicated things, like the great defensive midfielders, by winning the ball and playing it simple.

You certainly wouldn’t want to come up against a fired-up Tiote, whether that’s on the pitch or the paintball field, which is where Newcastle were again this week on their annual team-building exercise at Delta Force in Seaton Burn, Northumberland.

That away-day has given us this gem of a picture, which shows why Newcastle fans love Cheick Tiote…

I love him. I got his name on my last Toon top and if i was going to buy the new one ( and i’m not on principle) i would get his name on again. Our mohawk wearing Ivorian warlord!

You are having a laugh. I said it 2 months after we signed him – “TAKE THE MONEY” when the offers came in . ( this is not hindsight and no I don’t want a job on match of the day ) . Watch how many times the idiot traps the ball in dangerous positions to (try to ) please his mum and Chelsea scouts and then hits quicksand and has to pass it to someone in his own half who definitely doesn’t want it. The goal he scored against Arsenal was the worst thing that could have happened, he never looks up and still thinks he’s playing against pubs.

harsh like,he certainly aint no 20 million quid player but he is hardly sub standard

  • Geordie Andy says:

Watch out for the points I made next season and get back to me……

Geordie Amy – While many criticised him towards the end of last season for being below par his stats were still better than most. Tackles made and passes completed were above average, not just for our team but for others too.
Much better than Jonas for example.
You sound like you want him to play the big boot all the time. Something we need to get past.
Personally I think he changed his game and became a better player for it.
OK, When he was out for a few games it took him a couple to settle again, so what? Ben area, Cabaye, and many more suffered the same hot and cold streaks.
I think he was our player of the season and will shine even more next season.

Like I said, watch how many times he arses about with it for no good reason and with the state our teams in, a couple of them in different games could be the difference in staying up , absolute liability trying to show off in hope of bigger and better things with a lovely agents hand up his jacksie.

  • Daniel says:

He was good in his first season and good in the 11/12 season until he went to ACON’12 and since then he has been largely poor, he gives the ball away too often for a player in his position, he can be a liability at times with his need to commit silly fouls and he often dilly dallies on the ball ON THE EDGE OF OUR OWN BOX for no reason at all.

    • thetoonrme says:

He dallies with it as half the team cant read the game and there is no out ball, yes he infuriates us with his turns and tricks on the edge of the box but at the end of the day its man utd and chelsea linked to him so once again i say he is hardly sub standard,I also think he has 4 and a half years left to run on a 6 and a half yr contract

The team liability is Steven Taylor

  • Geordie Andy says:

You’ve got more chance of seeing Ketsbaia at Man U or Chelsea…

  • Geordie Andy says:

..and as for ‘no out ball’ – by the time the idiot has done 3 drag backs and 4 twirlies (by now he’s given the ball a name by the way) everyone is marked….duuurgh..
