Newcastle to resort to the Blackburn Rovers goal machine

Jordan-RhodesIn their search for a striker, Newcastle United could turn their attentions to Blackburn Rovers forward Jordan Rhodes according to Sky Tyne and Wear.

Rhodes greatly impressed in his first season at Blackburn following his £8 million transfer from Huddersfield Town, netting 28 times in 48 appearances, with all but one of those goals coming in the Championship.

While the 23-year-old is yet to score in two Championship matches this season, Blackburn’s player of the season is still expected to bag plenty of goals in the second tier of English football.

Having only spent one year at Ewood Park, Blackburn are obviously reluctant to sell and it would take a sizeable bid to lure him to Tyneside.

Blackburn Rovers managing director Derek Shaw told the Lancashire Telegraph on the Rhodes rumours: “We’ve had no contact from any club, and that’s how we would like it to stay. There have been no bids for him. We do not want to sell him.”

That’s pretty conclusive, but if Newcastle continue to fail in their pursuit of other strikers, then an offer may well be tabled for Rhodes sooner rather than later.

The 6ft 1in striker is on the bench for Scotland against England at Wembley tonight, as he looks to add to his nine international caps and three goals.

Rhodes would be pretty pricey, probably costing even more than Bafetimbi Gomis and his agent fees, so that is likely to put Joe Kinnear off.

However, Rhodes remains an option, but would you like to see the Football League’s goal machine at St James’ Park?

Yeah cos the other strikers we have had in common have all been rubbish! Shearer, Cole, Gallacher etc Rhodes is too good for Newcastle

As a Rovers fan, you can and should do better.

Don’t think he’s the Guy to help us upfront. there are better players that am sure we can afford.

Whats Demba Ba doing this summer?

If you don’t think he’s good enough, then you’ve not seen him play enough.

You do need to give him good service though, he’s not the sort of striker to create his own goals. But his movement, awareness and finishing are top drawer.
