Andre AyewNewcastle United’s Director of Football Joe Kinnear was at the Stade du Hainaut last night to watch transfer target Andre Ayew play in Marseille’s 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Valenciennes according to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.

Time is running out for Newcastle to secure new additions to their squad before the transfer window slams shut on Monday 2nd September and it seems like Andrew Ayew has become one of their leading targets.

Ayew was in Ligue 1 action yesterday, as he lined up on the left of a midfield five for Marseille and was heavily involved in the match.

He provided the assist for the only goal in the match, as Andre-Pierre Gignac tapped in with just five minutes left on the clock after Ayew’s header from a corner was saved.

Here is the action (apologies for the poor video quality)…

Ayew had earlier provided another chance for Gignac before himself testing the goalkeeper with a powerful header.

The Ghanaian completed the full 90 minutes and it will be interesting to see if Kinnear was impressed with what he saw and, if he was, how quickly Newcastle will move to secure the 23-year-old.

As we reported earlier this week, Ayew should be available for around 10 million Euros.

A fantastic player, true talent. But I don’t see us landing him with the likes of Inter and Liverpool sniffing round him.
If we get him, with Remy already in I think our attack will be decent. But get Gomis as well while Ashleys wallet is open please will ya Joe.
