Blanc talks up Tottenham as destination for Newcastle ace

Cabaye away shirtPSG Manager Laurent Blanc has been at it again, talking about other clubs’ players and now he’s had a dig at Newcastle United, saying that Yohan Cabaye should join a big club like Tottenham Hotspur or, surprise, surprise, the club he’s in charge of.

While it isn’t classed as tapping up, trying to unsettle other clubs’ players is pretty low and nothing is being done about it.

Blanc has a history of this and yesterday was talking to Le Parisien about Yohan Cabaye once again, despite him being contracted to Newcastle until 2016.

Of Cabaye he said: “This is a very good player, I have not changed my mind (smiles). For now, it is Newcastle. I also read that Tottenham are interested in him. Newcastle, Tottenham, or Paris – I hope that he’ll still be at a big club in September.”

So, Blanc thinks Cabaye should move to his club, north London or stay on Tyneside, but why does he have to get involved at all?

If he has any spare time he should watch himself getting skinned by Craig Bellamy in Newcastle’s 4-3 win over Manchester United (07:50)…

Concentrate on your own players Mr Blanc and stop trying to get Cabaye to move to London or Paris, he’s perfectly happy in the north-east!

Newcastle fans are mugs if they think they’re a ‘big club’, Spurs are a historic club as are Newcastle, but Newcastle haven’t been big for about a decade. They have no grace to fall from so it can’t even be put like that! Posting a video of a 12 YEAR OLD game….doesn’t really support your point now does it given they beat you by the very same score not even a year ago…. this article is laughable. Cabaye would be better off at either club than at Newcastle if he wants to try and win silverware…

As for your diabolical statement, if you are a Spurts fan, what have you got to chirp on about, you’ve been in the top 4 once since the PL started, just because you’ve spent wads on players & stopped in the top 6 doesn’t make you a big club either…. a decade ago, you were a middle table club & not that many seasons ago, you were in the bottom, 3 until floppy chops took over & spent a fortune to get you back up the table, typical small time London club mentality, so what’s it like being the 4th club of your area now or I that 5th, I’ve lost count!!!

I’m a Spurs fan but agree with you 100%. Your boys have come a lot closer to winning the PL than we have recent history and Tottenham fans who spout crap like that give us all an uneducated look. This “tapping up” of players is beyond a joke. Nothing will be done about it all the time Plattini is in charge though. Blanc’s French so nor a chance of him being brought to task and Zidane also. The Fair Play rule was brought in when the Prem clubs had all the money but now a few French clubs have rich owners it seems to have gone on the back burner.

Actually Spurs have been in the top four twice since 2010. The first time we actually played in the Champions League and reached the quater finals. The second time we didn’t get to play as Chelsea won the Champions League and took our place.

I’m not no, I follow the PL, I don’t support any of the clubs.

However Spurs are a FAR larger club, FACT.

If I were a player… where would I go out of the three? Definitely wouldn’t be Newcastle, it’d be PSG then Spurs. As I said in my original statement both clubs are historic, but neither would I classify as big.

Blanc saying that isn’t trying to unsettle the player – its more respect for a player at a club where he’s not living up to his full potential, and were I him, I know I’d stand a better chance of (regular) European football with the likes of PSG.

Spurs haven’t spent ‘wads’ of money either, they’ve spent probably slightly above the average but equally sold player for high values aswell to balance it out… Modric last year is a great example, although the club spent £61.5m (according to reports) – they sold £62.8m of players – £30m of which was Modric alone THAT is great business – with a net profit of £1.3m. Newcastle by contrast spent £26m and only sold £12.5m – net loss £13.5m. Other than Carroll (who was an oddity and joke for 2 seasons) and a handful of other players (by handful I mean about 2) Newcastle haven’t sold any player over £10m regularly. Spurs on the other hand, with the exception of 1 year in the last 12-13 years have sold at least 1 player every summer break for at least £10m.

Spurs are relatively good with cash flow, as are Newcastle, neither are a scratch on Wenger’s transfer stats however.

It some what irks me that people complain about the money that flies about in the PL, its considered in a lot of circles as the best league in the world, with that you should expect big money to be spent.

I don’t think its a true Spurs fan bashing Geordies above. Generally we don’t have much against your club or you supporters. Peace!

  • Toon69 says:

Its about time the FA, Fifa & Uefa etc got involved & stopped these managers from talking about other teams players unless they’ve made an official bid for them… last season we had floppy gob churning out biel about Ba until he left, letting the whole world know about his release clause, now it’s Cabaye they’re trying to disrupt, no wonder no other club apart from the loaded one’s have a chance to progress, they’re forever losing their best players because they’re being unsettled with stuff like this tripe!!!

  • caveman says:

Last year Laurent Blanc was looking for LLauris to leave Tottenham because he wasn’t playing regularly. This year its Cabaye he’s worrying about. Mouthy people like him (who have a contract with a football club) should suffer a club points penalty and a fine. That would stop it. You’ll never stop ex-footballers from speaking to the press, bit personnel from other football clubs making statements about other players situations, their clubs should be docked points. This should happen, even if they are in charge of a national team.

  • Spurs says:

Toon 69. When was the last time Newcastle won anything? Anything before World War 2 doesn’t count

  • Readitagain says:

Blanc actually says newcastle, spurs and PSG are big clubs and that he hopes that Cabaye will be at one of these clubs when the window slams shut.
I think the author got the wrong end of the stick…

  • ShotYourselfInTheFoot says:

This quote can only be asserted as an attempt to unsettle a player by the most uninformed of persons.

He is quite clear in acknowledging Newcastle, Spurs, and PSG as big clubs. If anything, he is overly gallant in insinuating an equality between the three teams when, if anything, they are leagues apart (no pun intended).

Unfortunately, the author has done nothing by publishing this article save to illuminate his own stupidity.

    Well done, sir.

I agree with Toon69. It’s now getting beyond a joke, all this tapping up. I obviously want Bale to stay. Real can’t afford him, unless they pay over six years or something like that anyway. It makes a total sham of the rules put in place by the Football bodies, who really don’t seem to care. I have never liked seeing players (Spurs or otherwise) being tapped up. Clubs should be deducted points (a minimum of 15 for example) for doing it. And yes that includes Spurs too!!

Big clubs don’t really care about fines, especially as they are not usually that large (for the club). Points deduction would hurt much more.
