Yoan Gouffran has revealed on his Official Twitter Account that he will be signing for Newcastle United tomorrow and will be the latest player from across the Channel to join the French Revolution on Tyneside.

@YGouffran Tweeted: “Tomorrow I will be a Newcastle player and I’m proud. Thanks to everyone, hugs and kisses” (translated from French).

Now, for all you sceptical people who don’t believe anything on Twitter, it’s from his verified account, so it’s as official as you can get apart from seeing him in a Newcastle shirt.

Earlier in the day he also said that he needed a new challenge and a challenge is certainly what he’ll get in the north-east as he looks to help turn Newcastle’s fortunes around.

The 26-year-old forward has featured for the French U21 side in the past, but not the senior team, and has only played in French football to date.

He has featured in Ligue 1 for Caen and then Bordeaux, where he has been since 2008 and in those five years has played over 130 league matches.

Gouffran hasn’t scored a hatful of goals, but he can also play as a winger or a second striker, so should be suited to the front three that Alan Pardew likes to adopt.

As his contract is expiring in the summer, he’s only going to cost Newcastle somewhere in the region of £1.5 million, which is an absolute steal for a player of his quality.

He could be the first of a quartet of Frenchmen to arrival at Newcastle over the next few days, with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara and Moussa Sissoko all likely to join him on Tyneside.

Vive la France!

hang on …will just look into my crystal ball!!
dont bite but santon has been crap all season and needs to be dropped and not take up a position more suited to a certain young irish lad.

      HWTH…KEEP THE FAITH

Chris I totally agree Sissoko is needed.as for Santon, I personally would play him as a winger and play gutsy on the right. His style of play has winger written all over it. Hope mbiwa isn’t an instant replacement for Colo though. I’d like him to stay for the rest of the season and see us right. Has haidara signed yet cos all I’m seeing is rumors.
