Newcastle United have made a bid for Nancy left back Massadio Haidara according to Sky Sports and reports in Italy.

20-year-old Haidara is of Senegalese descent but was born in France and has played at various youth levels for the country of birth.

He is highly rated across the Channel despite only playing little more than 30 matches for the Nancy senior team, who he signed for professionally two years ago.

Haidara has plenty of pace and has the attacking instincts to be able to play further forward, which has brought him to the attention of many clubs.

There are differing reports about where he will end up, with agent Oscar Damiani saying that: “It is likely that he will eventually go to England. The cost is still around 4-5 million Euros”, with Newcastle’s bid thought only to be 3m Euros.

However, Haidara himself is quoted by TMW as stating: “I prefer Roma to Newcastle, as I prefer Serie A. I’d love to play in Italy, though Newcastle are also a good team.”

Haidara continues: “I know that my agent has spoken to both clubs, we’ll see what happens. As far as I am concerned, I’d love to play in Italy.”

Newcastle are likely to have to up their bid of around £2.5m and it remains to be seen whether he’d move to England, but he seems like an exciting player…
