Newcastle linked with shock move for Liverpool flop

Newcastle United could be set to swap one South American centre back for another, as the Daily Star is reporting that Liverpool’s Sebastian Coates could be the man to replace seemingly outgoing Magpies captain Fabricio Coloccini.

With the signing of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa looking like it’s in the bag, Newcastle may still be on the lookout for another centre back if Coloccini heads back to Argentina.

While it would be a massive shock, Coates could well benefit from a change of scenery having failed to impress at Liverpool since signing from Nacianol for £7 million 18 months ago.

Coates simply can’t get a look in at Anfield, with Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel Brendan Rodgers’ preferred centre back pairing.

The 22-year-old would be available at a cut down price and at 6ft 5in tall wouldn’t lose too many aerial battles.

He already has nine caps for Uruguay to his name and as the Best Young Player in the 2011 Copa America, he definitely has plenty of potential.

However, seeing as the article claimed that Liverpool were looking to move Coates on to raise funds for Wesley Sneijder, who only today joined Galatasary, then this transfer rumour could be a non-starter.

He’s not French either!

Not a cat in hells chance he is going to Newcastle for a knockdown price. we are short of defenders as it is. And after being screwed over for Carroll we have long memories.

  • Jt says:

He is not a flop and is most likely only going on loan and NUFC is not getting any favors from us so move along!

oh come on lads, let bygones be bygones, we need Sebastien and you want rid so seeing as he has been a flop I would suggest that £5M should do the trick.

  • scb says:

hahaha u can hardly blame or hold a grudge against us for carol. I mean seriously? if we had offered you £35m for NGog and you took it, who would be the idiot? I think your embarrassed about it and thus looking to blame someone who isnt yourself. sad really. cheers for the dosh.

Agree 100% and i’m a born and bred LFC fan carrol was a panic buy simply because torres left us in the brown stuff on deadline day we got a daft price for torres and paid a daft one for carrol…Then when carrol starts to come good we loaned him out laughable really…As coates is concerned the lad has potential and an eye for goal worth a punt if you ask me….Anyway good luck lads for the rest of your season…Cheers

Wow. I have to say, I was expecting abuse as a reply, not an actual sensible comment 😀 your spot on in your assessment. Carol will come good but only if the team is setup in a certain way. I think Rodgers plays nice football and although Big Andy is capable, its far from his strength when playing neat possession football. Dont get me wrong, I would have him back in a heartbeat. Coates has bags of potential but i dont think he is what we need. We need experience to stop us going down as as good as coates could become, we need quality now. Sturridge will change your season i think. im a massive fan of the lad and hes a quality signing. Best of luck for your season Mac (except when we play each other of course) 😀

  • Martin says:

Carroll, Henderson and Downing – King Kenny’s Legacy -he screwed you over mate!

  • Will says:

Definitely not a flop looks like a quality player in the making, when he plays he normally plays very well and we would be fools to let him go

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

<<<<<<<<< stills sees ya still a bit bitter about carrol lol

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

10 mil for the 2 of them sounds a fair deal to me 🙂

  • Joe says:

    Coates isn’t a flop.

He won’t dislodge Skrtel and Agger easily but when his opportunity comes, he’s expected to take it.

Meanwhile, he needs games so he may as well go out on loan.

  • steve says:

please stop throwing your shirts in the tyne its poluting the river

  • karl says:

why would he want to join a relegation fight?

  • Fry says:

    Dam it!!
Read the headline and thought that Downing was going.
Oh well can but hope, maybe we can chuck him in as part of the deal for Coates.

  • salvage says:

please stop calling coates a flop cos he’s not,if he is going for a transfer better because every player wants to play week in week out.that will be good for him

  • KITYO JONATHAN says:

He shd leave we hv got many players who a nt helping d team 2 progress like him. i wish him d best as he luks 4 greener pastures.

  • Ronald says:

Coates as not played a lot of game but think we need to keep him cos if we want to contend for champions league position then we gonna need gud players to come of da bench…carrager is nt gonna be back up much longer,he lost a lot of pace plus he’s get old

  • dapnufc dolan says:

Hey lads lets get real, this guy coates is wanting to play good football wherever he is,he would be a great aquisition to any team,im sure a relagetion fight would show his true worth, esp if we stayed up,this would surely give the lad confidence.
