Newcastle favourites to land Aston Villa striker

Darren Bent v NewcastleNewcastle United have emerged as favourites to sign former Sunderland, now Aston Villa, striker Darren Bent this month.

On yesterday’s evidence, Newcastle are in desperate need of a striker, as their main source of goals Demba Ba is now at Chelsea, and against Reading Papiss Cisse missed a couple of guilt-edged chances to put the game to bed and earn the Magpies an all-important three points.

If Newcastle are going to stay out of the bottom three and avoid relegation this season then it is vital that they take their chances and you just don’t feel confident when Cisse is in front of goal right now.

Darren Bent isn’t in favour at Aston Villa at the moment, a team who are also battling against the dreaded drop.

Villa manager Paul Lambert has continually put his faith in Christian Benteke and Bent didn’t make it off the bench against West Brom at the Hawthorns yesterday.

However, there is no doubting that he is a striker with pedigree and in the right situation will score goals again once more.

Throughout his career he hasn’t been far off a one in two goal ratio and while at north-east rivals Sunderland scored 32 goals in 58 Premier League appearances.

Sky Bet have installed Newcastle as 9/4 favourites to sign the 28-year-old, ahead of London clubs Fulham and QPR who are 11/4 and 4/1 respectively.

Would you forgive Bent for having played for Sunderland if he scored the goals that kept Newcastle in the Premier League?

Seeing that Aston Villa paid £18 million for him two years ago, would he cost too much?

Are there any better options out there?

No chance, Sunderland sign ex Newcastle players, we NEVER sign ex Sunderland players, it just doesn’t happen. If they are of the calibre to sign for Sunderland in the first place they are hardly going to cut out to make iit at NE1 lets be honest.

Newcastle NEVER sign ex-Sunderland players, eh? It just doesn’t happen! Typical of the arrogance we’ve come to expect from the deluded! I can immediately reel off four Newcastle players who all played for Sunderland first (Stan Anderson, Jeff Clarke, Shay Given, and Lionel Perez), though, admittedly, two of them date from before the Second Coming of The Curly-Permed One marked the beginning of recorded history!

Too many foolish comments on here… If we did bring bent in, he would have to score goals… Regardless of being ex-mackem if he did score a few then id accept him with open arms, bent is definetly better than cisse, only a fool would think otherwise!

Yip your players are well cutting it at NE1 at the moment. Infact the problem seems to be your club will sign NE1 at the moment just as long as they are French lmao the first sign of trouble and what do the French do put their hands in the air…….just what you need for a relegation run in lol

  • Peter says:

Stupid article. Bent demands wages in the bracket of Ba and Remy – no way will he accept less, so no way would NUFC even consider talking to him – Total non-starter.

  • Steve says:

Agree this is a total non starter, why would Villa sell Bent to a relegation rival it would suicide…..

  • Wayne Abbott says:

Ain’t going to happen Bent left Sunderland on 55k a wk, so one would imagine that is wage is larger than that now, plus the figure to Sunderland was 24mil, NOT 18Mil, so I would think Villa would want as least half of that back, will Ashley fork out that amount of cash, Never in this world, not to mention the fact NUFC are in a relegation battle along side Villa..

  • Wayne Abbott says:

I hope he goes to NUFC and the gets relegated with them, it will serve I’m self rite for listening to his greedy agent who miss sold him that dream move to Villa, but if the truth be known the mags wouldn’t pay his wages so to all you mags, END OF CHAT, You are going down…

  • Wayne Abbott says:

    Mind the Gap.. FTM Pardwhoooooo

  • Maghater says:

Darren Bent is too good for Newcastle. He probably sees you as odds on for relegation anyway. You should have gone in for Frazier Campbell, he would have got you a few goals, and Fat Mike would have liked the price.
