Newcastle United are back in Europa League action next month as they face a trip to the Ukraine to take on Metalist Kharkiv in the Round of 32 and ahead of that tie fellow Premier League side Chelsea have done Newcastle a favour by purchasing arguably their best player – Taison.
While Newcastle’s number one priority this season is to stay in the Premier League, an added bonus would be an extended run in the Europa League and a trip to Amsterdam in May for the final would be a treat for the Toon Army.
After some indifferent results in the group stages, Alan Pardew’s men will have to up their game against Metalist, especially for the away leg in Kharkiv, in order to progress through to the next round.
Metalist have a fairly strong squad, but there is no doubt that they have a stand out player – Brazilian Taison.
24-year-old Taison is at the creative heart of Metalist’s team and it is no surprise that Chelsea and a number of other clubs are after the former Internacional player.
However, Sky Sports is reporting that Chelsea have already agreed a deal, which would be a bonus for Newcastle ahead of the match in Ukraine and would definitely weaken Metalist.
I guess Newcastle are owed a favour from the Blues after Chelsea took Demba Ba off their hands earlier in the month – maybe it was even a clause in the deal!
