Chelsea have moved into poll position in the race to sign Newcastle United striker Demba Ba, as an exit from St James’ Park in the 2013 January transfer window looks inevitable.

Today Sky Sports were reporting that Chelsea are set to meet with Newcastle representatives this evening in an attempt to thrash out a deal and activate his £7.5 million release clause.

Demba Ba found the net once again in the Premier League against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, as he netted twice to take his tally to 13 for the season.

There is no doubt that Ba would be a massive loss for Newcastle, but if he was to leave at least it would put an end to the situation that comes round every season and would allow Alan Pardew and the Magpies to move on.

Newcastle are already looking to strengthen as well, as they have reportedly agreed a £5m fee with Lille for French right back Mathieu Debuchy, while the exit of Ba would be sure to result in the Magpies increasing their efforts to sign Loic Remy from Marseille as a replacement.

However, he would have to go some way to fill the massive hole that Ba would leave, as the 27 year-old has scored more than 30 goals for Newcastle in 18 months in the north-east.

Here’s an image that Newcastle fans won’t like, as it shows Demba Ba in the Chelsea shirt that he might be wearing next week…

Doesn’t look right, does it?

BA has no loyalty only greed. NUFC took a chance on him when no one else would. Get rid of him and play Cisse in the centre. The sooner he gone the better for team spirit

    Here we go again

Not true that no one else would take a chance. There were others interested – he opted for the Toon.

So GeordieDoonSooth – what do you do for a living? If another company were to offer you 20 or 30 thousand pounds a week extra to go work for them, what would you say? That’s a car a week extra. Or a house a month!

Loyalty – What’s that all about?
The guy left Hoffenheim under a cloud, refusing to attend training camp, forcing his transfer to West Ham. When West Ham went down he jumped ship to us.

We are wallowing at the wrong end of the league and he’s being offered more cash elsewhere.

    What did you really expect?

So what is loyalty? Steve Harper? An excellent goalkeeper throwing away any hope of an international career to play second fiddle to Given, just to binned a season later?

Other end of the scale – Shola Ameobi? 350 games and stayed with Newcastle his whole career? Achieved nothing – and nobody else will have him.

Loyalty is for married couples and sheepdogs.

If he stays – great. If he doesn’t, so what.

I’m glad the likes of GeordieDoonSooth would gladly give up a years wages extra EACH WEEK, but if I was in his position with a knee problem that could end my career at any moment I’m pretty sure I’d be going for the big payday too.

    Loyalty my arse.

Get rid ASAP he is having a negative impact on the club no player is bigger than the club etc…. we gave him a good deal that he was happy to sign he had a good season and is no doubt a great player. Newcastle have put a good deal on the table but he wants to at least double his wages let him go I hope his knee falls off.
