It happens in every walk of life. You leave a job thinking the grass is greener and then end up wishing you never left. It’s no different in football and over the years there have been plenty of players who have left Newcastle United only to end up regretting it further down the line.

Premier League footballers have given many reasons for leaving Newcastle United in recent seasons.

Jermaine Jenas moved to Tottenham Hotspur, complaining that Newcastle was a ‘gold fish bowl’ that he couldn’t handle day-in, day-out.

Players have fallen out with managers, whether that was Graeme Souness, Joe Kinnear, Sam Allardyce… I could go on and on.

Then of course there was Newcastle’s relegation in 2009, which led to many players not afraid of getting their hands dirty in the Championship and as a result jumping ship.

So, I have compiled a list of ten former Newcastle United players who now will wish that they stayed in the north-east instead of heading for pastures new.
