In a poll run by Football FanCast querying what makes the modern footballer so unlikeable, out of 1,354 responses, 485 (36%) of fans claimed money as the biggest motivator of distaste.

Finishing admirably in fifth place last season, Newcastle United surprised everyone claiming a Europa League berth despite an inferior budget to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Football FanCast has been polling 12,000 football fans, picking their brains at what makes a footballer favourable or unfavourable, aiming to reveal a set of respected characteristics amongst supporters.

The set of five individual polls raised by Football FanCast are hoped to provide a complete profile of modern footballers.

Newcastle have achieved recent praise for bringing lesser known talents to the Premier League for slender fees and making stars out of them. Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote and Demba Ba have been a revelation on Tyneside and have undoubtedly doubled or tripled their transfer fee in terms of performances.

Striker Papiss Cisse was signed from Freiburg for £10m (a relatively small fee in the current market) and he has gone on to strike13 league goals for the Magpies in 21 appearances.

Sunderland fans will obviously disagree out of local pride, but Newcastle have received general aplomb from many quarters for achieving success on a modest budget, and none of their players featured in the poll detailing the most hated players in the Premier League.
